A Day in: Pigneto

Rome is full of wonderful sights, beautiful ancient monuments and Churches, but sometimes, to get into the real core of a city, there is a need of seeing more. For example, there are tons of cute neighborhoods that we sometimes neglect, just because it’s too far out of our itinerary (or where we live) or because we don’t know enough about it to give it a try. That’s why I decided to let you discover these quartieri easily with this series called “A Day in”. A small adventure to the cutest and coolest neighborhoods of Rome that have nothing to envy from the center!

Pigneto

We start with the fabulous Pigneto. One of my favorite neighborhoods in Rome. When I was a student, I would come to school here. I saw this place changing day by day. With years passing, I can just say: it got better. Before, it wasn’t as curated like it is now, it had an urban vibe, but not in a fancy way. If you ask anybody now, they will tell you that Pigneto is an incredible hip and cool place, where you can easily spend your day enjoying a very artsy vibe all around. Finally it got the reputation it deserves.

Street Art in Pigneto

One beautiful side of this neighborhood is definitely the importance of art, and especially the freedom to express it in every way. When walking around, lose yourself through beautiful graffiti and installations made of flowers, lights and other objects. The thing you must do, is look around as much as you can: look up, look down, look left and right; because there is always a lot of art going on!

Food & Drinks
This is the neighborhood to be, and so the neighborhood to eat (and drink)! How to try everything you need to, in just one day? Impossible, of course. But I will guide you to the perfect eating and drinking experience. You have two choices for breakfast, it depends what you are looking for: a cute garden terrace with three kinds of breakfast (American, English and European) at Rosti, or a quick caffè e cornetto at Bar Rosi where you can experience the real Roman breakfast vibe. For lunch or dinner there is just one place you want to be, and that’s Trattoria Pigneto: a very easygoing and typical trattoria where you can enjoy every kind of Roman dish, no need to say; it’s my favorite place. The staff makes you feel at home and you can eat outside on their terrace, where you will see how lively and colorful are the people of Pigneto. A gem! And after a few hours, we have aperitivo time. Pigneto offers so many choices on this, so you can easily find a cute spot where to enjoy your happy hour, but there are two places that can’t be missed: Necci, with its amazing terrace, is a perfect choice when the days are sunny and warm, otherwise Birra+ with so many choices on beer you will lose your mind. Another quick and different direction on aperitivo is also street food: Kalapà a greek take-away restaurant, for example, is a delicious option. And to close your perfect day in Pigneto, have one amazing cocktail at Pigneto66, who specialize in gin, and enjoy the cute little rooftop!

Shops
In a neighborhood like Pigneto you can find the best vintage and vinyls! Two amazing shops to check out are Mademoiselle Vintage & Second Hand Shop and of course Radiation Records. A local market with fruits, vegetables and other curious things is present every morning except on Sunday.
